The Wessex Way is all about the Wessex League. The league started in 1986/87 with the inaugural champions being Bashley. Many of the top teams in the region now have been members of the Wessex League in the past - Salisbury, Eastleigh, Sholing, AFC Totton, and Weymouth to name but a few.
Currently the league has 21 teams in the Premier Division and 21 in Division One. The teams compete in a variety of cups and recently have shown good results in the FA Vase with AFC Stoneham winning at Wembley in 2026.
The clubs come from central southern England - Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Wiltshire, Surrey and Berkshire. The boundaries do move a little season by season and have in the past included teams in West Sussex and Somerset.
This project brings together long time friends Official Wessex League Photographer Robin Caddy and PR professional Tim Smith. They first met on Winchester Hospital Radio more years ago than they'd care to admit.
