Portland United are one of the Wessex League’s outposts, with their home ground almost 30 miles from their nearest opponents.
Formed in 1921, Portland joined the Western  League in 1925/26, where they stayed for 45  years. They were Division Two champions twice and league runners-up in 1966. In 1970 they joined the Dorset Combination (later the Dorset Premier League), winning the league title six times. They joined the Wessex League in 2001 where they stayed for five seasons, with a highest position of eighth, before relegation five years later.
Portland were promoted to the Wessex League again in 2015 and won the Division One title and promotion in their first attempt. The following season (2016-17) they were crowned Wessex League champions, winning the title with a goal in the 95th minute of their final match. The Blues have remained a Wessex club ever since and this season are in a strong position to reach the play-offs.
They have reached the FA Cup 4th qualifying round four times, including an incredible 6-5 defeat to Llanelli in 1953/54 and taking non-league giants Yeovil to a second replay 12 years later.
Known as the Blues, Portland United play at the 1,500 capacity Camp and Satherley Stadium, which they moved to in 1994. Crowds average around 150 although in the past Portland attracted a crowd of over 4,000 for a match with local rivals Weymouth.
