Newport (IOW) have a long and storied history.  Formed in 1888, they were founder members of the Isle of Wight league in 1898.  Founder members of the Wessex League, The Port have reached the first round of the FA Cup as recently as 1994.  Their recent history has been dominated by the need to find a permanent home.  From 1988 to 2018 St Georges Park was home, but a new stadium has been a long time coming.   A time playing at Smallbrook Stadium, most well-known for Speedway, has been followed by a tenancy at Cowes Sports home Westwood Park.
A new ground, The Racecourse, is under construction but, as always, hoped-for timescales slip and it looks unlikely the ground will be ready for the start of the 2026/27 season.  Traditionally the biggest team on the Isle of Wight, with 43 Isle of Wight Senior Cup trophies to back up that claim; this has been a testing time for fans of The Port.
