Hamworthy Recreation have made strong progress since joining the Wessex League in 2022/23. In their first season they lost a Division One semi-final on penalties to New Milton, but the following season were promoted to the Wessex Premier as champions. Since then, seventh and sixth places finishes have taken them close to a play-off spot.
Hamworthy Recreation were formed in 1948 as Hamworthy Engineering (changing their name in 2001) and were mainstays of the Dorset Combination and Dorset Premier League, winning twelve league titles.
In recent years The Rec have entered the FA Cup and FA Vase, already enjoying two good Vase runs. They lost a fourth round penalty shootout to Jersey Bulls in 2023/24 and reached the third round two years later where they fell to eventual semi-finalists Hallen.
Their Meyson Properties Stadium in Magna Road is part of a wider sporting complex, including cricket and golf. It has a 50-seater stand and a small covered standing area. The most notable feature of the ground is the large social club building on one side. The stand and floodlights were installed in 2022, ready for promotion into the Wessex League.  Ground capacity is 1500 and in August 2025 the stadium welcomed  the TV cameras for the Recs FA Cup tie with Hartley Wintney as part of the BBC’s Road to Wembley.
