Sherborne Town moved to the Wessex League in 2023 after 16 years in the Western League as part of a non-league restructure. Since then, they have finished comfortably in the higher reaches of mid-table every season.
The club was founded in 1894, joining the Dorset Combination in 1963 and winning the title in 1981/2. Sherborne then became part of the new Dorset Premier League in 2002/03. Their highest position was runners-up in 2005/06 earning them promotion to the Western League.
Further promotion to the Western League Premier Division, again as runners-up, followed in 2007/08 but Sherborne were relegated four years later. They bounced back as champions at the first attempt in 2012/13 for a further four-year stint in the top division. A first Western League First Division title followed in 2021/22 before the move to the Wessex League two years later.
The Zebras best FA Cup run came in 2010/11, beating Dorset rivals Hamworthy United and Wimborne Town enroute to a second qualifying round loss to Hungerford Town. Sherborne’s best season in the FA Vase was in 2006/07 when a run to the fourth round ended in defeat to Mildenhall Town.
Sherborne’s Raleigh Grove ground can be found in the Terrace playing fields, home to a number of football and rugby pitches. It features a 150-seater stand in the club’s colours on one side and a covered standing area and clubhouse behind one goal.
Use postcode DT9 5NS or it’s a fifteen minute walk from Sherborne station. Numerous local buses stop in the town centre, not far from the ground. To find out more, visit the Sherborne Town website
