Sturminster Newton United have made rapid progress up the non-league pyramid in the last few years, joining the Wessex League Premier Division in 2026/27.
Sturminster Newton had played in Dorset football at various levels for around 70 years before winning the Dorset Premier League in 2023/24 and with it promotion to the Western League. Two years later they finished runners-up in Western League Division One, and play-off victories over Bristol Telephones and Wells City (both on penalties) saw the club promoted again. A lateral move between leagues then saw them join the Wessex Premier, rather than remain in the Western League.
The club was originally formed way back in the 1870s and took their current name in 1945. They moved to their current ground in 1996.
Sturminster Newton United have been recent entrants to the FA Vase, reaching the third round in 2025/26.
The club plays at Barnetts Field in Honeymead Lane – it’s about a fifteen minute walk from the town centre.
