Though only rejoining the Wessex League ten years ago, Hamble Club have risen to become one of its most successful teams, reaching the play-offs in both 2024-25 and 2025-26.
Hamble were formed in 1969 and progressed through the Southampton Junior, Senior and Hampshire leagues, before becoming founder members of Wessex League Division 3 in 2004/05. They achieved a highest finish of 15th before joining the new Hampshire Premier League.
However three promotions in four years, together with ground improvements, saw The Monks progress through the non-league pyramid, rejoining the Wessex League in Division 1 in 2016/17, They were promoted to the Premier Division as champions at the first attempt and have gone from strength to strength, winning the Wessex League Cup in 2023/24 and reaching the play-offs in 2024/25 to be defeated by Fareham Town in the semi-final.
Hamble Club have been quite recent entrants to the FA Cup and FA Vase with their most successful season being their first in the Vase in 2017-18 when they reached the 5th round.
Their ground, the Abbey, and the village of Hamble are just to the east of Southampton. The standout feature as you enter the Abbey is the sheer amount of the club colour, yellow, around the ground. This includes the long narrow 200-seater stand along two-thirds of the far side which has at least 20 pillars and is a favourite with groundhoppers.
To find the Abbey use postcode SO31 4JL or the ground is a five-minute walk from Hamble station on the Southampton to Portsmouth line. Find out more on the Hamble Club website.
