Match Action from Andover New Street v Hamworthy Rec
Andover New Street are firmly established as the senior Wessex League club in the north Hampshire town which has been home to three Wessex teams.
The 2024/25 season was particularly successful for the Street, with a magnificent run to the semi-finals of the FA Vase and a Wessex League promotion play-off final, which they lost to Fareham Town. They reached the play-offs again the following season.
Andover New Street were formed in the 1890s. Originally called St Mary’s Swifts they changed their name to New Street in 1895.
The club disbanded in the 1950s but reformed in 1961 and played in the Andover and District, North Hampshire and Hampshire Leagues. At the turn of the millenium, the club took its present name and joined the Wessex League in 2004-05.
The Street won promotion to the Wessex Premier Division in 2016/17 as Division One runners-up, only to be relegated in their first season. However a first place finish in Division One in 2022-23 saw them back in the Wessex Premier.
New Street play just outside Andover, in pleasant countryside, in the village of Charlton. They moved to their Foxcote Park home in 1992. The ground has a stand halfway along one touchline and a large clubhouse. The record crowd of 1,390 was set for the 2025 FA Vase semi-final against Combined Counties League Whyteleafe.
To get to Foxcote Park use postcode SP11 0TA or there is a half-hourly bus from Andover to Mercia Avenue in Charlton, half a mile from the ground. You can visit the Andover New Street website here.
